Gustaff Merlot is from Curico in the Central Valley of Chile.
Merlot is a much-loved international red grape variety, and it is even more widely distributed than Cabernet Sauvignon worldwide. Merlot prefers clay soils rich in limestone and can grow in hot or cool climates. Merlot shows more mature flavours in hot climates, which is also a common international style while Merlot from cooler climates has a more elegant personality. Gustaff Merlot sits somewhere in the middle of the two extremes.
Tasting Notes
Gustaff Merlot has a deep red colour with some bright pink highlights. There is an intense nose of blueberry and cassis with a touch of mint. Pleasant and lively on the palate with a medium body to the wine. Soft and delicate tannins on the finish.
Food Pairings
This is a good bottle for Mediterranean style pasta dishes or as a pairing with a sharp and firm cheese. For Chinese food this pairs with noodles, pork, or pork dumplings.
