Magalhaes Reserve Port is a premium port using grapes from the best vineyards in Vale de Mendiz and Roncao.
Port wine is a fortified wine made in Portugal’s scenic Douro Valley. Fortified wine is a wine to which a neutral grape spirit (brandy) is added during the fermentation to halt further fermentation. This leaves residual sugar in the wine, resulting in an alcoholic, full-bodied, sweet wine.
After ageing a few years, Magalhaes Reserve Port is a wine that is marked by elegance and offers an incredible value with layers of flavour. The port wine is full-bodied, with soft tannins and fresh fruit flavours including mulberry, cassis, blackberry, and dried herbs. Persistent and elegant in the finish.
Tasting Notes
Magalhaes Reserve Port is a wine that has a lot of fruit and simultaneously an elegance in the aroma and the taste which makes it extraordinarily agreeable. Cherry red fading to translucence around the edge. Good sweet porty nose, with some red currants. Nicely balanced sweetness with rounded fruits.
Good volume in the mouth, rich in mature fruits with firm tannins which confers it an excellent complexity.
Food Pairing
Port always has an obvious association to strongly flavoured cheese, with Stilton being at the very top of the list for a must-have experience. Our advice would be to simply ensure that whatever cheese you do pair it with, ensure that it’s a hard cheese. Port and most other red wines, just dont work with soft cheeses. If you’ve read that anywhere about pairing red wines with soft cheese, then rip that book up and throw it in the bin. It’s wrong. Very wrong.
Dry crackers with minimal or neutral flavours. Nuts without salt. Dried fruits. These are all good to pair with the cheese, or for those that don’t like cheese, they are good alternatives.
