Smirnoff Vodka
Smirnoff is claimed to be the world’s best selling vodka and the number one premium spirit brand in the world. It’s produced in several locations around the world, including the UK and the USA to a recipe and production method that goes back to early 19th century Moscow.
Smirnoff is made from neutral grain spirit, that is rectified in a process that takes 24 hours. It’s then blended with demineralised water to bring it down to 57% ABV. It’s them filtered through 7 columns of activated charcoal (each with about 1000kgs of charcoal, another process that takes 8 hours) before it’s reduced to a bottling strength of 40%, with more demineralised water.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Crystal clear.
Nose: Clean, neutral, a faint hint of cracked black pepper
Taste: Again, clean. Very subtle mineral tones with more black pepper. Occasional faint peppermint freshness.
Finish: More cracked black pepper.
Serving Suggestion
Vodka drinkers tend to ignore Smirnoff. Apparently, it’s too cheap, so psychologically consumers think it must be a bad product. Well, that’s where you’re all wrong. Production facilities for Smirnoff are about as modern and high-tech as can be achieved in distillation. It’s for sure a safer bet than all this bathtub, small batch, “craft distilled” malarky that happens in a shed with some bearded weirdo with a background in homebrew beer.
If you’re mixing vodka, and you’re buying anything more expensive than Smirnoff, you’re a loon.
