Brecon Special Reserve Gin
Brecon Special Reserve Gin is a fine quality distilled gin using botanicals from the four corners of the world and bottled at Penderyn Distillery using water from the Brecon Beacons National Park. It contains Welsh Spirit, Juniper Berries, Orange Peel and 8 other botanicals.
Brecon Special Reserve Gin scooped a gold ‘best in class’ award from the International Wine and Spirit Competition in 2013 and the gin has also received high praise form other competitions too.
Tasting Notes
Taken neat, Brecon gin is a big traditional juniper gin laced with coriander and revealing hints of spicy cinnamon. Add a mixer and the citrus freshness of oranges and lemons appear with nutmeg, liquorice and angelica in a supporting role. The characteristic flavours go well with tonic, ice and lemon on a warm summer’s day with a refreshing juniper in the lead role, but Brecon’s traditional heritage is equally at home besides a roaring fire on a cold night and will bring back memories of long hot summers past.
If you don’t have great tonic (by great, we mean imported from a land far away), then simply use soda water, a few slices of fresh lemon and a a few drops of freshly squeezed lime.
Serving Suggestions
The most common way to enjoy any decent gin is with tonic. Just make sure you have decent tonic – dont use that locally made junk in a can that doesn’t even have quinine.
Straight from the Mayor
Gin is my thing. It always has been. It always will be. First and foremost, gin before all other liquors. So it might be fair to say I know a think or two about gin. Brecon Special Reserve gin and it’s sister bottle, Brecon Botanicals, are totally steaming hot beauties. Yeah, they cost a few pennies more than your average house pour, but they are massively cheaper than the other cliches – but better.
