Romisa Chardonnay is one of our best selling white wines from Curico Valley in Central Chile. Curico Valley is located roughly 115 miles (185km) south of the capital, Santiago. It is divided into two sub-regions: Teno in the north and Lontue in the south. The valley is known for its reliable, good-value everyday wines, particularly the reds made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc. What is still largely undiscovered is the amazing value Chardonnay wines from this area and this bottle is a prime example of why you don’t need to spend big money to get good wine.
Romisa Chardonnay has a straw colour with gold highlights. Intense aromas of pear, pineapple and acacia flowers. Mouth entry fresh; medium-bodied, with outstanding notes of exotic fruit in the finish.
To the nose, Everything you’d expect and then some. Easily balancing 13.5% ABV with ample charms of summer flowers, peaches, straw and general fertility. There’s something else there, too. A hint of real depth.
Romisa Chardonnay is an exemplar of its kind. It exudes buttery glycerin goodness. Reliable sunshine, an escape from the daily routine. It’s clean—but only just. This grape is both elegant and dependable. If, as a variety, Chardonnay has a fault, it’s just that it’s a tad predictable in its consistently high quality, even at the lower reaches of the market.
Food Pairing
Chardonnay food pairings need quiet flavours—mild, subtle foods that are not too spicy, not too pungent and not too acidic. Top of the list of things to avoid are spicy foods, oysters, strawberry or anything that contains eggs. Add any bitter-tasting foods to the list of big no-nos. Avoid tomatoes, olives, capers, or anything that has vinaigrettes style sauces.
Pair Chardonnay with simply seasoned poultry, meaty fish (halibut or cod for example), or anything with a toasty flavour from toasting, grilling or smoking during the cooking process. Any meals with a silky texture such as risottos or soups that use cream, or a creamy pasta sauce.
For Chinese style foods, then keep it simple and avoid any spicy or chilli rich meals.
