SKYY Vodka New Packing
Skyy vodka was originally invented by Maurice Kanbar, a San Francisco entrepreneur who suffered from sickness when he drank alcohol. He attributed this to the impurities or the congeners in distilled spirits.
He set out to create the world’s purest vodka possible and in 1991 he launched Skyy vodka. He claims it has the “fewest impurities” or any vodka, at 0.9mg per liter.
Skyy is made from wheat using a 4 column distillation process. It is then filtered through calcium carbonate, cellulose plates, and granular carbon.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Crystal clear
Nose: Clean on the nose, with hints of white pepper. Faint coffee bean and vanilla notes.
Palate: The tiniest bit of sweetness on the taste and it has a quality, slightly creamy mouthfeel. Subtle grain notes with more pepper. Faint liquorice and coffee.
Finish: Clean pepper and mocha coffee.
Serving Suggestion
A consistent and solid mixing vodka. Not quite special enough for sipping, but most people want a mixer with their vodka anyway.
Straight from The Mayor
This is one of the most common house pour vodkas in the bar trade and has been for at least a decade. It looks a bit dated and isn’t considered as “cool” as other vodkas, but it’s a good, solid vodka and justifies its presence in any bar.
Great value for the price.
